Basic Features
The Collins-McCarthy cards featured a black and white design showcasing player images, names, positions, and teams on the front, along with a card number. The reverse side indicated that the card was part of a set of 200, titled "Baseball’s Hall of Fame." However, the Baseball Hall of Fame itself was not established until 1936. This set includes several Cubs players who were not widely featured on many cards, making them relatively unknown, such as Art Wilson.
Wilson, a catcher, primarily served as a backup throughout most of his career, although he did take on the role of starting catcher for the Federal League's Chicago Whales during their two-season run from 1914 to 1915. He made history by hitting the first home run at Wrigley Field, off George "Chief" Johnson, on April 23, 1914. Additionally, he was the catcher for Cubs pitcher Hippo Vaughn during the famous "double no-hitter" game in 1917. A game where both teams finish without a hit in nine innings, a feat that may never be matched again.
