1978 Hostess Snacks Cubs (F-unc)

Number of Cards

1978 Hostess has 150 cards, which there are 6 Cubs players.

Size of Cards

The cards, when cut properly, measure 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" and the card panels measure approximately 3 1/4" by 7 1/4".

Basic Features

Between 1975 and 1979, Hostess Bakeries featured baseball cards on the outside of their snack cake boxes. These cards were generally organized in a three-card panel, with the front card positioned at the bottom of the box, thereby removing any uncertainty regarding which cards would be included. Certain cards are rarer than others, as they were found on packages of less popular Hostess items. This represents the fourth of five annual Hostess releases. Some collectors consider Hostess panels from this period to be slightly more challenging to acquire than those from other years. There are two types: the 3-card horizontal panel and the L-shaped panel. An album was produced specifically for these cards.

240 in the American Caramel collection included 15 Cubs

Size of Cards

The cards measured 2″ x 3 1/4″

Basic Features

The fronts feature tinted images showcasing the player’s name, position, and team. These player images are encased in a decorative, oval-shaped frame. On the reverse side, there is a checklist for that player’s team. A distinctive feature of this set is that each team boasts its own unique frame design. The cards are available in both green and beige/tan tints. American League players had beige/tan cards, while green was designated for the National League. This is the largest E-Card set ever produced. American Caramel even created albums specifically for these cards, allowing collectors to organize their collections. Unfortunately, similar to most albums from that era, this meant that collectors had to glue the cards directly onto the pages.
