Number of Cards

1916 Standard Biscuit set consists of 200 cards, including 22 players from the Cubs.

Size of Cards

The cards measure 1-5/8” x 3”

Basic Features

Released by the Standard Biscuit Company based in San Francisco, every card in this regional set showcases a black-and-white image of a player framed by a white border. At the bottom of the card, printed within the border, are the player's name, position, team name, and card number. On the back, there is a Standard Biscuit advertisement stating: "You will find a photograph of a member of the American or National League in every 5 and 10 cent package of our products." The simplest method to identify this set is through the reverse advertisement, which all cards featured. Numerous sets utilized identical images but had different backs. In addition to the various advertising backs mentioned above, these cards are often found with blank backs as well.

1963 Jello ( F229-2) Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

1963 Jello has 200 cards, which there are 8 Cubs players plus 1 traded from Cardinals.

Size of Cards

The cards measure approximately 2 1/2" by 3 3/8"

Basic Features

Cards are cut out individually from the back of Jello product boxes. The front features the Card Number along with a short biography and stats. These cards are laid out horizontally and sorted by team in numerical order. The checklist for this collection aligns with that of the 1963 Post, even though they are considered separate issues. The Jello series has its own list of rare cards, many of which stem from an unpopular package size. Since the Post Cereal logo was taken off the 1963 cereal set, Jello cards can mainly be identified by (1) their smaller size and (2) the smaller print and shorter red line in stats.

One of the earliest Post-WWII baseball card sets available is the 1947 Homogenized Bond Bread. The cards feature black and white designs with replica signatures on the front and have blank backs. To facilitate packaging these cards within the bread loaves, their four corners were rounded. This detail is significant as there exist SQUARE corner versions of these original cards. The original 1947 cards are quite difficult to locate.

The most remarkable aspect of this historic set was the backdrop, as most players were photographed at their home field, including Wrigley Field, as depicted in the image above.

Other fantastic Cubs that were included in this collection

Boudreau provided play-by-play commentary for Cub games for numerous years, and he was also part of this 1947 Bond Bread (D305) set. Additionally, he served as the radio play-by-play announcer for the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks broadcasts for WGN radio and television as well.

Can you identify this stadium? It's quite old, especially when you notice horses and buggies on the streets.
