1976 Hostess Snacks Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

1976 Hostess has 150 cards, which there are 6 Cubs players and a couple varations.

Size of Cards

The cards, when cut properly, measure 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" and the 3 card panels measure approximately 3 1/4" by 7 1/4".

Basic Features

From 1975 to 1979, Hostess Bakeries included baseball cards on the exterior of their snack cake boxes. These cards were typically arranged in a three-card panel, with the front card displayed at the bottom of the box, eliminating any surprise about which cards you would receive. This is the second of five annual Hostess issues, and incorporates a bicentennial color theme. , and it was your responsibility to cut them out. The original collection comprised 150 cards, organized into 50 panels of three cards each. Some panels were exclusively found on boxes of less popular products, making them rarer. This was the second significant release featured on the bottoms of specially marked Hostess snack cake boxes, including King Dongs, Cup Cakes, and Twinkies.

In 1976, individual twin packages of Hostess Twinkies included a unique set of 60 cards. While the fronts of these cards were identical, the backs featured a black bar at the bottom of the statistics. Additionally, this set includes either black or brown ink on the back of these cards, depending on the region of the country where they were printed. To add to the complexity, they also created packages for L-Shaped Panels.

In the eastern regions, they referred to them as 'King Dons', while in the Midwest, they were known as 'Ding Dongs'. Additionally, some areas in the US offer packages of 'Big Wheels'. If you gather Hostess packages, you'll discover that all three of these are essentially the same treat.

1965 O-Pee-Chee (V-unc)

The American Card Catalog first came out in 1937 and saw considerable growth over the years, leading to its last edition in 1960. This explains why many cards from 1960 onward are unc, since the book was not revised after that. The V category was the destination for Canada Candy.

Number of Cards

1965 O-Pee-Chee has 253 cards which there are 17 Cubs players

Size of Cards

The size of the cards are 2-1/2" by 3-1/2"

Basic Features

Back in 1965, the company launched its baseball card production thanks to a license from Topps. Based in Ontario, this company was active in the baseball card scene from 1965 until 1992. This collection closely resembles the standard 1965 Topps set, with the notable difference being the phrase "Printed in Canada" located at the bottom of the back. The front showcases color player images set against a white border, complete with rounded corners. Below each photo, the team name is displayed within a pennant design. Additionally, the player's name and position are printed on the front. The backs, featuring a blue background, provide player biographies and statistics on gray card stock. These were produced in a lower quantity compared to the regular Topps issue.
