The 2002 Donruss Originals is a collection of 425 cards that honors the Donruss sets from the 1980s.

The base set includes cards designed in the styles of the 1982, 1984, 1986, and 1988 Donruss sets, featuring active players from 2002. Additionally, puzzle pieces depicting the late Ted Williams were randomly included in the packs.

The Donruss Originals product, which comprises the first 400 cards, was launched in September 2002. All 50 Rated Rookies, along with another 50 star player cards, were produced in limited quantities, with the 50 superstar short prints distributed throughout the set.
