1947 Bond Bread (D305)

Number of Cards

1947 Bond Bread set consists of 48 cards, including 1 player from the Cubs.

Size of Cards

The cards measure approximately 2 1/4" x 3 1/2"

Basic Features

One of the earliest Post-WWII baseball card sets available is the 1947 Homogenized Bond Bread. The cards feature black and white designs with replica signatures on the front and have blank backs. To facilitate packaging these cards within the bread loaves, their four corners were rounded. This detail is significant as there exist SQUARE corner versions of these original cards. The original 1947 cards are quite difficult to locate.

The most remarkable aspect of this historic set was the backdrop, as most players were photographed at their home field, including Wrigley Field, as depicted in the image above.

Other fantastic Cubs that were included in this collection

Boudreau provided play-by-play commentary for Cub games for numerous years, and he was also part of this 1947 Bond Bread (D305) set. Additionally, he served as the radio play-by-play announcer for the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks broadcasts for WGN radio and television as well.

Can you identify this stadium? It's quite old, especially when you notice horses and buggies on the streets.
