1886 Lorillard Team Cards (N-unc)

Number of Cards

1886 Lorillard set consists of 4 cards, including 1 from the Cubs.

Size of Cards

The cards measure approximately 4" by 5"

Basic Features

These cards showcase composite "head" shots of players from four National League teams. The reverse side displays schedules for these teams, along with an advertisement for Lorillard Tobacco. The cards are visually appealing, featuring eleven players and a ballfield diagram on the vibrant front. Please note that there are reproductions of this set.

In 1886, the White Stockings had a record of 90-34-2, securing 1st place in the National League. Sadly, they were defeated in the World Series (4-2) by the St. Louis Browns. For the White Stockings, Cap Anson tried to start the game with Ned Baldwin as the pitcher, but the St. Louis fans expressed their discontent, and the Browns refused to continue until Baldwin was taken out. They ended up losing by a single run. I can't imagine that happening today, but anyway, the game was called after 7 innings due to darkness.
