1910 Sweet Caporal Pins P2

This unnumbered set from American Tobacco Company were produced and distributed roughly between 1910 and 1912. There are some players with small lettering and large lettering in the checklist with large letters will have a B next to it, the pins with larger letters are worth more.  Each pin measures approximately 7/8" in diameter. The pins are essentially brown and white and the pictures closely resemble the T205 Gold borders around the same time period. Original advertising "Sweet Caporal" brand identified on a thin-paper backing inside the pin’s reverse is a big plus. I will include price at near mint condition. Luckily they are hard to counterfeit so you don’t need graded pieces although it doesn’t hurt if the price is right.
Sweet Caporal are designed as P2 in the American card catalog
These are a great and fun set to start collecting vintage cub pins are very common and lower grades are cheap. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!!!

1914 Cracker Jack reverse side

You know, my favorite thing to do on this blog is to examine the backs of vintage baseball sets from the 50s on up, but this time I’m looking at the 1914 Cracker Jack. Very little about card backs is ever discussed, but the reverse side can be very interesting. They complete a picture by providing information that people might not know. The Cracker Jack Company of Brooklyn and Chicago began inserting baseball cards into its boxes. This is one of the most popular baseball card sets of all time and these cub players are some of the best that ever played the game. Here’s the checklist.

To tell the difference in the 2 years they were printed, the ad mentions 144 cards in the set; in 1915, the number was changed to 176. Another difference between the backs in the two sets is that the 1915 cards were printed "upside down" in order to be read when mounted in an album specifically made for the cards.

17 Roger Bresnahan with number
17 Roger Bresnahan no number about 10x more valuable
21 Heinie Zimmerman
41 Tommy Leach
64 Jimmy Archer
89 Lawrence Cheney
101 Frank Schulte
104 Vic Saier
105 James Lavender

The American Card Catalog designation for this set is E145-1

Condition is a big factor since Cracker Jack cards are made of heavy paper (instead of cardboard) as you can see all the stains from the candy and the discoloration from sitting around all these years.

Hall of Fame Joe Tinker Cubs Cards

Joe Tinker one of the greatest shortstops to play for the cubs from 1902 to 1912. With his great speed and exceptional defense he led the national league 5 times in fielding. During his decade with the Cubs, they went to the World Series four times, winning in 1907 and 1908. He helped form major league baseball's most famous double play trios of "Tinker to Evers to Chance."

Tinkers rookie card 1903 Sporting Life Cabinets W600 #368 Joe Tinker is a great player to collect and his cards go up in value all the time. 1998 Best Full Count Autographs #23 Kerry Wood

Kerry Wood day is back!

Sorry it’s been so long without a Kid K post, but now that he is officially retired, I will start posting some of his other hard to find cards and a few fan favorites, so this week let’s look at the 98 best autos. These cards were randomly seeded into packs of 1998 Best Signature Series baseball. The cards are copyrighted as 1997 issues and share the exact same front design as the basic 1997 Best cards. In all likelihood, there may've been complications or delays in finishing these cards in time for the 1997 packout, and they were thrown into 1998 packs rather than being destroyed, sitting in a warehouse forever, or being sold individually by the manufacturer. In addition, a standard-sized mail-in offer card featuring a copy of Kerry Wood's 1997 Full Count autograph on the front (whereby the collector could obtain the featured card for $49.99) was made available.

It's Kerry in his Orlando Rays Minor League uniform and his 97 Best regular issue with promo back, kinda rare.
