Basic Features

Over the course of twenty years, two companies were responsible for manufacturing the Hall of Fame cards: Albertype from 1944 to 1952 and Artvue from 1953 to 1963. During the period from 1953 to 1963, Artvue distinguished its products from the earlier Albertype cards through the use of unique fonts and different backs. There were two primary types of Artvue postcards produced during this timeframe. Type I, which was printed between 1953 and 1955, featured plaques with corner holes. Conversely, Type II, created from 1956 to 1963, showcased bolts in the corner holes of the plaques. The backs of these postcards were designed simply, without a stamp box, and included a divider that read: "Artvue Post Card Co., 225 Fifth Avenue., New York, N.Y." These features render Artvue postcards easily recognizable and illustrate the company’s design evolution throughout its decade of postcard production.
