1939 Goudey BROWN Premiums, Goudey BW Premiums, Goudey Redtone Premiums

Comprising 48 cards, the 1939 Goudey Premiums R303A set features items measuring 4” by 6-3/16”. Each card is printed on paper and showcases a player's photograph alongside a reproduced signature, all rendered in brown-toned sepia on the front. The reverse side provides "how-to" guidance, and this particular series is slightly smaller than the related R303B set. That collection, the 1939 Goudey Premiums (R303B), contains 24 unnumbered cards sized at 4¾" by 7-5/16". These cards, printed in either black ink or redtone, also include baseball instructional tips on their backs.

1977 Kellogg's 3D Super Stars (F287-9)

Number of Cards

1977 Kellogg's has 57 cards, which there are 1 Cubs player and 1 Sox player.

Size of Cards

The cards are the following dimensions: 2-1/8" by 3-1/4""

Basic Features

The 1977 Kellogg's 3-D set was available either card by card in cereal boxes or as a complete set through the company in exchange for box-tops. Cards that are still encased in their original wrappers are valued at 25 percent more than the prices indicated below. What, then, contributes to the uniqueness of these 3D baseball cards? The process begins with a cutout of a player, which is then complemented by a blurred background, followed by the application of a transparent plastic layer featuring ridges over the image. These cards were produced by the Xograph Company located in Irving, Texas, using technology developed by Visual Panographics from New York.

Except for the multicolored orange design around the player, the overall front layout remained largely unchanged from 1976. These fronts continued to feature the athlete's position, surname, and a facsimile signature. The reverse sides followed a similar pattern, displaying a miniature portrait, key statistics, team emblems, and a short biographical sketch. Consistent with prior releases, the text on the back was printed in blue ink. Notably, this marked the final time player photographs would be included on the backs of vintage Kellogg’s sets.

1933 Uncle Jacks (R317)

Number of Cards

1933 Uncle Jacks has 30 cards, which there are 5 Cubs.

Size of Cards

Cards, which measure 1-15/16" x 3".

Basic Features

Uncle Jack’s Candy baseball card fronts feature a star player from the 1930s depicted in one of four different colors (red, green, blue, and purple), with his name identified along the bottom border. The back of each unnumbered card is blank. Distributed only in the company’s home area of New England, the 1933 Uncle Jack’s set is a rare issue that included a coupon redeemable for a trip to the 1933 World Series. That contest wasn’t a drawing, however; the ten boys who sent in the most coupons by September 15th were the winners. During the 30th World Series, the New York Giants, winners of the National League pennant, faced off against the Washington Senators, the American League champions. Ultimately, the Giants won the series in five games.

1971 Fleer Official Major League Patches

Number of Cards

1971 Fleer Official MLB Patches has 50 patches, which there are 2 Cubs.

Size of Cards

Standard size, which measure 2 1/2" x 3 1/4"

Basic Features

This collection features a monogram patch and a logo patch for each of the 24 MLB teams, plus an extra MLB logo patch. While the boxes proudly label this set as "Official Major League Real Cloth Baseball Patches," the packaging simply calls them "Major League Baseball Patches." Interestingly, the Fleer Official Major League Patches - Baseball Quizzes, which serve as pack stabilizers, aren't officially included in the product listing. These cards showcase a large circular team logo sitting above three trivia questions. They might remind you of the 1969 edition, but there's a key difference: the logo circle extends all the way to the edges of the card.

1933 Big League Leaders Pins (PR3-10)

Consisting of 16 pins with a 3/4" diameter, the PR3-10 set highlights statistical leaders across various categories, including most wins in a year totals. These pins display only the players' names and a primary statistic rather than their images. Due to the absence of portraits, this collection is slightly less sought-after than more conventional pin sets.

1967-68 Fleer Cloth Baseball Emblems-Insert (R418-unc)

During 1967 and 1968, Fleer released a collection known as Fleer Cloth Baseball Emblems. To provide structural support within the packaging, Team Logo Cards were included alongside the cloth patches. Additionally, "Trio" Cloth Patches—consisting of three small team-name patches—were inserted, bringing the total to six patches per wax pack. While slight differences exist between the two years, the 1967 set is particularly rare. They are larger than a standard size baseball card. The Logo cards are 2.5 x 4.5 and the Cloth Patches are 2.5 x 4.2.

Since counterfeit fabric patches are virtually nonexistent, you can collect these sets with complete confidence. They were once perfect for sticking onto a t-shirt before heading outside to play baseball with the neighborhood gang.

Fleer Cloth Baseball Emblems:

As illustrated above, one of the primary distinctions is that the 1968 version shows peel off here in the upper-left corner.

Fleer Cloth Baseball Team Name Trios Insert:

There are many different stickers, with various colors and teams, from both years. All in all, I count nine.

Fleer Cloth Baseball Emblem Cards used for stability:

The '67 card insert has the team record in 1966, and the '68 card insert has Wrigley Field dimensions but no team records.

Fleer Cloth Baseball Wax Packs:

The packs for 1967 look similar to the 1968 packs, with the main difference being that the title "Baseball Emblems" is red in 1967, and black with a different font in 1968.

1933 DeLong Gum (R333)

The DeLong Gum Baseball Cards (R333) would be a great set for anyone looking to assemble a vintage collection.

Produced by the Boston-based DeLong Gum Co., the 1933 DeLong Gum Baseball Card Set (R333) comprises 24 cards. As one of the earliest examples of cards packaged with chewing gum, it remained the sole offering from this specific company. A notable advantage of this series is the absence of Babe Ruth. Each card measures 2” by 3”, featuring a black-and-white portrait of a player set against a vivid, brightly colored backdrop of a stadium. This striking contrast between the monochromatic images and the vibrant backgrounds gave the set a distinctive appearance. Bold lettering at the bottom identifies each player and their respective team.

The text on the back was penned by Austen Lake and featured gameplay advice intended for young collectors. Because Lake also authored the sports tips for the 1934 Diamond Stars series, some speculate that National Chicle acquired DeLong. The company was founded by Harold C. DeLong, a former Goudey employee who ventured out to establish his own rival gum card business in hopes of achieving success during the 1930s. Within this 24-card assembly, 15 players are members of the Hall of Fame.

1972 Topps Cloth Stickers + Topps Candy Lids Test Issue

Resembling 1972 Topps issues, these "test" cards are distinguished by their cloth sticker material. Every piece in the collection measures 2 1/2" by 3 1/2". These specific items originate from a third series that failed to see a formal public release, and the reverse side of each sticker is completely blank.

Of all the Chicago players, only Johnny Callison was utilized in this series.

Chicago Cubs 1972 Topps Cloth Stickers Checklist

Number of Cards

1972 Topps Candy has 55 lids, which had 2 HOF Cub players.

Size of Lids

Lids are 1 7/8" Diameter

Basic Features

This second collection features photographs of baseball players located on the underside of the lids of 1-ounce bubble gum tubs. It was regarded as a test set and is quite difficult to find. For some strange reason, Topps airbrushed all logos from the portrait images, and the lids lack borders and are unnumbered. The names, positions, and teams are printed on the bottom.

1966 Topps Punchboards Test Issue

1966 Topps Punchboards (R414-42-unc)

Measuring 2 1/2" x 4 11/16", the scarce 1966 Punchboards set consists of 15 cards delivered in two-card panels. These panels feature small black-and-white portraits positioned in the upper left and lower right corners. A dashed, lightly scored line runs through the center, allowing players to easily split the panels. Once divided, each card prominently displays the player's name to the right of their image, with their position and league listed directly underneath. While the upper section of the card is set against a white backdrop, the bottom section contains 35 yellow baseballs on a colored field designed to be punched out during gameplay. These background colors denote the league, with blue representing the NL and red the AL, meaning every panel includes one player from each league.

1969 Topps Test Issue (R414-57-D) and (R414-54)

1969 Topps 4-1 Mini-Stickers (R414-57-D)

Topps 4-1 Mini-Stickers includes a total of 25 cards, featuring 4 players from the Cubs and 3 from the Sox. The size of the Stickers are 2-1/2" by 3-1/2". Featuring four miniature versions of the standard 1969 Topps singles, this impressive set highlighted athletes exclusively from the regular 1969 Topps second series. For five cents, collectors could purchase packs of three, with each pack containing 12 mini stickers and a piece of gum. Indeed, finding them in an undamaged state is quite uncommon. These lacked numbers and were designed for children to peel away and adhere to any surface.

1969 Topps Test Super (R414-54)

Topps Super Test issue includes a total of 66 cards, featuring 3 players from the Cubs and 3 from the Sox. The size of the cards are 2 1/4" x 3 1/4". Derived from the vibrant, high-gloss photographs adorning the card fronts, the set earned the name "Supers." While typical cards displayed the player's team and name on the front, these versions featured rounded corners similar to those of playing cards. Furthermore, the only text on the face of the card was a reproduced signature. On the reverse, a basic box contained the usual team and player details, with a card number positioned at the base. Evidence suggests this test release was limited solely to the New York City region.
