Cubs error cards

An error card refers to a sports card that features a mistake, which could be a misspelling or an image of a player who is not the Cub player indicated on the card. In earlier decades, card manufacturers typically rectified these errors upon discovery. This practice resulted in scenarios where either the corrected or the erroneous version of the card, depending on the timing of the error's identification and the quantity of each variant that circulated, commanded significant premiums in the secondary market.

• COR-means Corrected Error, so there are different variations.

1956 Topps Cubs Team

The 1956 Topps Cubs team card features three different front designs. Collectors often call these the "dated," "undated," and "centered" cards. The initial version displayed a team photo from the previous year, correctly marked as "1955 Chicago Cubs." However, to avoid confusion with a card labeled "1955" in a 1956 set, Topps decided to reprint these cards, covering up the date. This led to the team name being misaligned in the black box where it was placed. Eventually, Topps released a third version that centered the team name properly in the box.
